Several national bookstore chains can be found in Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, and Manta. There are also smaller local shops in the major cities as well as in smaller cities. Most large shopping malls have a bookstore.

Some stores are fancy with mostly hardcover pricey books and a selection of magazines and other reading material. Others are not so fancy and carry paperback and more affordable editions. Most of them have an English language section with more or less varied selections.
