Zooloja Parque Orillas del Zamora
Ecuador
Museums and Zoos
This beautiful park offers a number of different areas to explore - perfect if you love flora, fauna, or even just a great view.
The zoo, created in 2004, is the main attraction, and it was built to protect endangered animals. It is an ideal place to learn all about the biodiversity of the Ecuador, including as it does a number of creatures native to the country, such as Galapagos tortoises, bears, llamas, ostriches, flamingos, monkeys and a giraffe from Chile named Chelito.
In addition to the zoo there is a vermiculture station, where it is possible to observe the process of recycling organic waste to aid the production of humus. This activity takes place each morning.
You can also walk a 3 km ecological trail, which runs along both sides of the Zamora river, and enjoy charming scenery which provides a welcome escape from the chaos of the city.
If you are looking for even more ways to pass the time, you can check out the Municipal Nursery, where over 100 species of plants and ornamental trees thrive in a humid climate. One to look out for is the white cattleya, an orchid whose flower takes one year to emerge and fades within 8 hours.
And finally, if you have a need for speed, visit the Kartodroma, a go-kart racing track with a grandstand.
